UNICEF!

We estimated and counted the money we raised for UNICEF...almost $60! The students sorted the coins, then organized them into groups of ten before calculating the total. Thank you for helping us raise money for children in need!

Fall Party Fun!

Thank you to Amy and all the parents for making our fall party so much fun for the students!

Ealy House!

We had an extraordinary time at the Ealy House on Friday. The students got to touch artifacts and listen to stories about what life was like long ago in New Albany. They were so curious and engaged and asked a lot of questions! The Ealy House volunteers mentioned there would be an open house the Friday after Thanksgiving if you and your child would like to go again!

Final Visit from Eagles Football Players!

The students LOVED having special visits from the Eagles football players. Tristian was able to come to our classroom a couple of times to read to the class and talk about the importance of hard work on and off the field. Thanks Tristian and Go Eagles!

Author Study-Gail Gibbons!

The students have been so inspired by the work of author and illustrator Gail Gibbons. We have been using her work as we study nonfiction literature and research/report writing. Each student has chosen their favorite book to recall facts and write their own Gail Gibbon's inspired story!

Expanding sentences!

Today we practiced turning "boring" sentences into sentences that will hook the readers attention. It always amazes me with what the students are capable of with a little bit of help. I'm so proud of them and their developing love of writing.

Scientific Observations!

Today we went to Swickard Woods to observe what we see, hear, smell, and feel. We compared these observations to what we see, hear, smell, and feel in the classroom. This is part of our living vs. non-living science standards! What a blast!

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF!

Every day, somewhere in the world, UNICEF is saving and improving children's lives. Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF helps provide kids in need with health care, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and more. This week your child brought home a letter telling you why they are so excited to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF! They also brought home their special orange box to collect donations. Please return the orange box and any donations by Monday, November 2. We will count the donations that we collected and mail the money off to UNICEF. Thank you for helping your child participate in this special and optional project. If you are interested in more information visit http://www.unicefusa.org/mission/usa/trick-or-treat

Working on Writing!

We are working on becoming better writers by building stamina to write for longer stretches of time! The students love using their writers notebooks to write about topics and genres of their choice!

Choosing Good Fit Books!

We are becoming experts on choosing good fit books. Good fit books are just right, not too hard and not too easy. Students read a page or two from their book and keep track of words they miss.

We use this chant to help us choose good fit books:
0 or 1 read it for fun
2 or 3 just right for me
4 or 5 ahh! I can't stay alive

Practice this skill at home with the books you and your child read for the weekly reading log!

Homecoming!

Homecoming is this Friday! We love having senior football players visit us to read aloud and share the importance of hard work on the field and in the classroom! Go Eagles!

Acting Lessons...Take 1!

We had our first acting lesson with Mr. Stankowski. We learned how to use our voice as a machine. These acting classes are to prepare us for the Carnival of the Animals performance in the spring!

Fire Safety!

We had the fire safety assembly and went through the fire safety smoke house. The fire fighters interacted with the students to make sure everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency!
